Lighter FareMaybe I'll go a little less political today.
Braeden, my 4-year-old, and I were on our way home last night, and out of nowhere he asks me 'Mommy, how did God make us?' So there I sat in traffic trying to get my flabbergasted mind to come up with an answer to a question that millions of intelligent people have been trying to conclusively decide for thousands of years. I finally told him the truth, that I don't know, but maybe we would find out someday if we're lucky.
That question got me thinking. Our cat recently died, and my uncle is dying of a brain tumor, so Braeden is having to deal with death, and, by association, the concept of life. Naturally, he's going to have questions, and children understand a lot more than some people think. When I was pregnant with Braeden, I certainly never thought about what I was going to teach him regarding the creation of life. I believe in 'God', i.e., a supreme being of some sort. But I am not a religious person. Spiritual, but not religious. I don't go to church because I'm not a fan of the judgmental hypocrisy that seems to breed in organized religion. But I do see the beauty of our world and know that it can't possibly have been an accident. If you've ever stood at the top of a mountain at sunrise and watched the sun light the clouds on fire and the songs of the birds were so hauntingly beautiful that they took your breath away, then you have seen the work of someone. Or if you've ever struggled to give birth and then had a doctor hand you a tiny, tiny person, perfectly created, with just the right amount of fingers and toes, and those perfect little eyelashes. How could that be an accident of nature?
So, I just take every day as it comes, hoping to instill in Braeden a love of nature, of people, of LIFE, really. I want him to look around and be amazed, every day of his life. Because there are so many amazing things around us, and we are so busy that we just walk on by. What a shame.
Three quotes for today, they go right along with this topic.
"There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is." -Albert Einstein
"Seek the wisdom of the ages, but look at the world through the eyes of a child."
"The world will never starve for want of wonders, but only for the want of wonder."
Well, I promised a lighter subject today, and then I switch to religion. Sorry. I guess you guys bring out the philosopher in me. Be very, very afraid. 回應 (7)
